Friday Events (July 1st)

Cupcake of the week: Cookie Dough

Flavors I’ve been pondering-Fig and Vanilla Bean, Chocolate Stout and Pretzel

Reviews posted this week:

  1. When You Dare by Lori Foster
  2. Trace of Fever by Lori Foster
  3. Demons Prefer Blondes by Sidney Ayers
  4. The Ex-Boyfriend’s Handbook by Matt Dunn
  5. Heart of the Highland Wolf by Terry Spear
  6. Things We Didn’t Say by Kristina Riggle
This week's question is:
Q. ACK! Your favorite book/movie character (example Hermione Granger played by the Emma chick) just walked into the room! Who is it and what would be your first reaction? You get extra points if you include visual stimulation.
Hmmm my favorite character…Snape played by Alan Rickman or Darcy played by Colin Firth. I think I am going with Snape. My first reaction would be undignified screeching followed by even more undignified fawning followed by common sense. I would probably, once I got my sense back, ask him to call me a “dunderheaded girl” just once. I would probably call him Professor Velvety Voice or something of that type. I’m rather pathetic when it comes to Snapey-Poo.

Book Blogger Hop
What keeps you reading beyond the first few pages of a book, and what makes you want to stop reading a book and put it back on the shelf?
I generally give each book a chapter or two before I put it down. A connection with the main character is necessary for me. If he/she annoys me, I’m done. Also if I am reading a romance novel and the main couple has zero chemistry from the start, I generally will quit reading it unless it’s an author I trust.

Mr & Mrs: Who are your favorite book couples?
I have many.
  • Darcy/Lizzy-How can they not be on this list. They are THE romantic couple.
  • Anne/Gilbert-Anne bullied him and yet he loved her. I’m feeling the need to read the books again.
  • Jo/Bhaer-I know many people were pissed that Jo ended up with the professor but I loved it. Laurie annoyed me anyway.
  • Edward/Bella-I hate to admit it but they are on this list not because of the books but because of the fanfic writers who write this couple better than Meyer ever did.
  • Diccan/Grace-Never A Gentleman by Eileen Dreyer- I love this book but he is so cruel to her most of the time. I have no idea why I love them so much but I do.
  • Katniss/Peeta-I thought I would love Gale more but I fell in love with Peeta.
  • Kerrigan/Dominic-Supernova-One of the best books and couples I have read this year. I will never cease in my shameless fangirling of this book.

  1. I cannot stop laughing. Your reaction to Snape is priceless. It always surprises me to find people who love him too, but he's a popular one, that velvety-voiced rascal. Anne & Gilbert, Bella & Edward, Katniss & Peeta - love, love love! Haven't read the other books, but I'm right there with you for those three couples. I've been thinking I need to reread Anne of Green Gables, too!

  3. Great choice! I went with Mr Darcy :D
Darcy & Lizzie are one of my fave couples too, as are Anne and Gilbert! I was also so glad Katniss ended up with Peeta, and I love that you like Edward and Bella because of fanfic, haha!

  4. Oh Anne and Gilbert! They're first on my list. It's always a good time to re-read that series. I read Anne of Green Gables at least once a year.

New follower! I love your header!!! Have a great weekend.

  5. @SweetMarie83

I'm always thrilled to find another Snape fan. He's always overlooked. I get in trouble for shipping him with an adult Hermione but it works, doesn't it?

  6. @Belle

The fan fiction is so much better, isn't it? There are such amazingly talented writers writing Twific.

I was completely surprised by myself when I ended up shipping Peeta and Katniss. I usually go for the broody types.

  7. @Molly Jo

I've been itching to reread the series lately. I periodically get the urge. It usually follows my annual resurgence of my Newsies obsession and a reread of Little Women.

  8. Heh, I loved book!Edward/Bella (well, most of their book story anyway), but I do agree that I enjoyed some FF writer's interpretations better. Excellent couples!

    Happy weekend!

  9. For the books that I'm stashing in rooms, I read in short bursts. To keep reading them I must be able to remember where I am even if I've only read a couple pages or haven't been able to read in days. Come see how I decide what to keep reading and what to stop.

  10. I love Katniss and Peeta!

"You love me. Real or not real?"
    I tell him, "Real."

How can you not love this?

  20. You have a lot of couples I haven't heard of. I am going to have to get reading. I usually give a book about 50 pages, but I really do hate to give up on a book. I have one book sitting there on my shelf...like a nemesis. Driving me crazy, but there are too many good books.

  21. I don't know why I keep reading a book. It's not the story. It's not the characters. I really don't know!

I'm hopping by to tell you that I've got a wonderful giveaway going on at my blog, Readerbuzz. It's international! During the Readerbuzz July Giveaway I'll be giving away a $25 Amazon gift card! I'd love to have you stop in and throw your name in the hat to win!

  27. These book blogger hop questions just get better and better. This one looks easy but I think it’s a trick question. We all know it’s the same answer – the writing – but we all have different perspectives of what good writing is.

Hop on over to my blog at http://www.howardsherman.net and read my three-prong answer as I explain why I’ll decide to pick up a book or put it down in under sixty seconds.

    Happy July 4th Weekend!
