Firehame
The elven lord Mor'ded rules with the black scepter of fire, but if you look closely at him, you might see something unusually human in his midnight eyes. His consort, Lady Cassandra, stands by his side, a petite woman who moves with such grace she almost seems to be dancing. The court dresses in flamboyant reds, oranges and yellows, and those lacking the white hair of the elven wear ivory wigs, sprinkled with silver dust to imitate the sparkle of the elven lord’s hair. Lava appears to flow beneath the receiving room floor, and white fire dances like starlight on the vast ceiling above.
Excerpts featuring Firehame, from the Elven Lords Series by Kathryne Kennedy:
Firehame palace:
The noise of the crowd faded as they neared the open gates of Firehame Palace. Red flame jutted from the top of the stone pillars flanking the entrance, danced along the outlying curtain walls. Dominic halted his mount for the span of a breath, studying his home with the unfamiliar gaze of one after a long absence. Elven magic had tinted the stone walls a glossy, brilliant red. Warm yellow flame slithered up the stone, whorled over the buttresses, making the entire structure shimmer in his sight. The towers soared above the three-storied palace and Dominic’s black eyes quickly sought out the tallest, looking for a flicker of wing, a jet of red fire. But he could see no sign of the dragon and so flicked his reins, urging his horse into the courtyard.
The Elfhame garden in Firehame:
The storm she’d predicted had broken, and they sheltered in a pavilion that looked to be made of marble but felt soft and pliable beneath her bottom. The rain created a sheer curtain beyond the roof and fell atop what she thought might be flowers of some sort, but their flat, round surface also reminded her of drums, except that when the rain beat upon them, they made ringing notes. The wind blew strongly now, and the whistling she’d heard before accompanied the ringing in harmony, and she searched for the source of that sound, her eyes widening even more as she discovered it.
The wind lifted the lavender petals of a plant and expanded them into long tubes that appeared to produce that whistling sound. As they waved and danced with the breeze, the harmony changed, like the way fingers on a flute produced different notes. Just beyond that bed of flowers lay a patch of scarlet petals shaped like bells, the wind swaying them and producing the sound of thousands of tinkling chimes.
The land:
Then they flew over a land riddled with pockets of fire, trees of flaming leaves that melted the snow around them into pockets of brown.
***
He loved the land. The rolling hills and green meadows and quiet ponds. Although he
For now he avoided the pockets of flame that shimmered among hill and vale, taking the road less traveled, bringing their party through silent forests and sleepy meadows. The pre-autumn leaves almost rivaled that of the elven lord’s flame trees with their tints of red and orange color. Dominic allowed the beauty and peace to settle over him, storing it up as usual for when he would need to call on it within the palace walls of Firehame.
By the time he found a good place to stop for the night, he felt saddle weary but calm. He chose to camp near a small stream within a circle of flame trees, their fire red blooms lighting up the area within and around the clearing. The glow from the blossoms should discourage any surprise attacks.
The dragons:
She had heard the dragons of the six other sovereignties had different powers

I LOVE The Fire Lord's Lover excerpt!
ReplyDeleteIf I were invited to the Elven Court of Firehame, I would wear a flame red/orange silk gown, matching sandles and jewlery and an ivory demi wig to cover the front of my auburn hair. Both the wig and my hair would be glitter covered to be presented to Lord Mor'ded and Lady Cassandra.

Well, since you could not compare to their beauty, I think a simple but elegant gown - nothing frilly. Something that flows. (I guess my preference is showing here lol). Noting garish - maybe a pale yellow to honor the court of Firehame.
ReplyDeletewow what to wear well I think i would be nervous so Im going to have to say my most comfortable jeans that way i would still feel like me
ReplyDeletemeandi09@yahoo.com
I would wear a bright red strapless gown.
ReplyDeleteMm, I would wear a gown with material that everytime you shift the color actually shifts. So the material would have to be red, yellow and oranges, so any subtle movements would give that flame affect.
ReplyDeleteWell since I love the color red, I would wear a dress that was a vibrant red. Have really enjoyed reading the other books, look forward to this one.

Hi Bookover00226! It sounds so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHi Mindy! Thanks so much! And what a stunning ensemble!
Hi Catslady! Sounds quite elegant.
Hi Jennifer! I'm most comfortable in a pair of jeans as well...and maybe sweats. :}
Hi Rhonda! The color would be great for Firehame court!
Hi Raonaid! Fabulous!
Hi Jean! Again, great to hear you're looking forward to the book.
My heavens, ladies! I wish I had a bit of real magic and could see you all in the gowns you envision. They all sound so gorgeous!
Great to hear from you all, and great to be here today!
Im thinking I would definitly go with something vibrant, maybe candy apple red or canary yellow, and it would have to be a victorian style dress, something with alot of poof, I love poof, perhaps throw in a facinator hat, one with a red or yellow vail, something utterly feminine and flowing, a dress perfect for the Fire Lords Court!
ReplyDeleteI would wear a full-length burgundy velvet gown with a fitted bodice. I want to be draped in velvet! My jewelry would be all garnet stones set in silver.
ReplyDeleteSince everyone else would be wearing vibrant colors, I would wear black: a close fitting, slim-cut gown completely covered in black sequins. The sleeves would be long, close
ReplyDeletefitting, closes with zipper on the back, a simple "round" neckline, plain black court
pumps. Simple, softly curling hairstyle with
additional grey/silver highlights in my al-
ready graying hair.
A dark red gown with silver threading throughout.

DeleteBlue is my favorite color...but not wanting to catch the attention of the "evil" elven lord, I would probably go with red and gold. A scarlet gown with gold accents would be beautiful. I think I might skip the wigs though and just put the glitter in my hair instead. TLoI is downloading right now, can't wait to read it!
ReplyDeleteI would dress up in a flowing dress with shimmering colors. It'll probably have lots of layers and sort of flutter when I move :)
ReplyDeleteCambonified(at)yahoo(dot)com
I guess I would wear a bright yellow dress. I prefer red but I wouldn't want to stand out in that crowd.
ReplyDeleteJust wanted you to know I am exhausted from conferences but wanted to stop by just to read your post. Nice job!
If I was to be present at the court, I would probably wear an off-the-shoulder empire waist gown that was deep red at the top and slowly changed to a deep orange at the bottom of the skirt. And maybe at the bottom, the orange would be fashioned with jewels or sequences to look like flames rising up. And since I have red hair, I would keep that, but maybe dust it with glitter for sparkle. ^_^

I'd be dressed in slinky flame orange dress with Swarovski crystals scattered across the bodice and some trailing down the skirt.

I'm not sure I'd know what to wear, but definitely something long and flowy probably something lavender.
ReplyDeleteyadkny@hotmail.com
I have this heart stopping red dress (at least according to my husband hehe), and my hair is nauturally blonde with highlights that make it pretty snow white. From there I would have my f*@# me shoes on and some sparkly jewlery. Wow I just put together a great outfit from things I have in my closet...maybe I should try it on before my husband comes home.
ReplyDeleteI've never dressed up for anything fancy, so I'm going to go with something with simple lines but a beautiful red color to go with my blonde hair (orange and yellow are AWFUL colors for me!!)! I really like the idea of wearing glitter in my hair though, and it would of course be swept up off of my neck and held in place with beautiful ruby pins!! Thanks for the chance to indulge in a fun fantasy :D
ReplyDeleteHi Magen! It does sound like a fabulous dress! I love this question that Grace posed. Such fun!
ReplyDeleteHi Diana! My favorite stone is garnet, and my fav color burgundy, so this is a dress I would definitely wear!
HI Pat! Very, very sexy. ;}
Hi bn100! They did a lot of silver thread in the Georgian era, great choice!
Hi Na! I love all the flowing dresses here!
Hi Tina! So sweet of you to drop by when you're so tired. You're a true friend. :}
Hi xiaopandaTW! You would blend perfectly with the beautiful elven lords!
Hi Heather! Another fav of mine, Swarovsky crystals. :}
Hi *yadkny*! Lavender is one of the elven ladies favorite color, she has a castle of amethyst. Lovely.
Hi Lexi! LOL. Tell him he can thank Grace for it. :}
Hi Julie! I had just as much fun reading all of these creative gowns. I think you ladies have designed a complete collection that would knock the fashion world off their feet!
Thank all of you for stopping by, and indulging in some fantasy. I had the best time! And thank you, Grace, for hosting me today, and asking such a wonderful question. One of my best times blogging! Big hug to you all, Kathryne
I did, he says Thank you ; )

Combustible Contortion! Sizzling Stretch! Burning and Bendy! Limber Lava!

What a great excuse to dress up! Assuming I had all the money in the world, I'd wear something that might be worn (by anyone but Cher) to the Oscars, because I assume my usual jeans and T-Shirt wouldn't cut it. :-)

Blue is my favorite color... but for the Firehame court I think I would have to go with a scarlet dress and gold accents. Something classic and elegant. I wouldn't wear a wig, but I might be persuaded to dab some glitter in my hair ;)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite color is green. So I would wear a long flowing dress in green. I would love to win these books. I'm following the tour.
