My Review:

Intro: I have been craving a good Highlander romance. In a big way. But nothing has quite appealed to me lately. I suppose it’s a subgenre specific reading slump. I was really excited when this one came about with the added bonuses of paranormal and pirated. I really did end up liking it.

Heroine: Raine- Raine was an excellent heroine. She was intelligent and strong. She did frustrate me though. She was one of those heroines that tend to be a bit bullheaded and foolish in her actions. She had good intentions but, at times, I just wanted to shake her and call her a dunderhead.

Hero: Keir-First of all, his name is excellent. I am pretty particular about names in romance. I really liked Keir. He was the perfect Highlander hero. He was a good guy but a bit rough around the edges. I actually think I would have preferred him a bit rougher but that’s just me.

Chemistry-I really did like Raine and Keir together. I love the pace at which their romance develops. It’s not painfully slow or obnoxiously quick but a nice normal pace.  I also get frustrated when the characters believe that they are only in love because of a spell or magic. It takes a bit away from the connection that is actually forming.

 Chemistry Rating:

Conclusion: I really did enjoy this book. I loved all of the high seas adventure and action. I also loved the slow-burn of the romance. It was a nice pace given all of the insta-love I have been reading lately. I will definitely be going back and reading the previous books in the series.

After years of trying to get his attention and overwhelmed from dealing with her mother’s new cougar lifestyle, Jenna’s giving up on Peter—and is ready to explore other men.

As the eldest of five siblings, with an alcoholic father to care for, boat craftsman Pete Lacroux always does the right thing and has no time for a real relationship. He’s looking forward to seeing his friend Jenna, a welcome distraction who’s so damn sexy and so painfully shy that she equally entertains and confuses him.

When Jenna picks up a hard-bodied construction worker, jealousy ignites Pete’s true feelings, and he’s powerless to ignore the desires for Jenna he never realized he had. But Pete’s not the quiet guy he appears to be, and his life is anything but conducive to a relationship. Can Jenna handle the real Pete Lacroux—the sexiest, most passionate alpha male she’s ever seen—or will she crack under pressure? And can Pete reclaim the life he once had without tearing apart his family?
SEASIDE SUMMERS is the newest addition to the LOVE IN BLOOM series, featuring a group of fun, sexy, and emotional friends who gather each summer at their Cape Cod cottages. They’re funny, flawed, and will have you begging to enter their circle of friends. You met them in READ, WRITE, LOVE, (The Remingtons, Book 5), follow these friends on their search for forever love in the Seaside Summers series. COMING SUMMER 2014.

My Review:

Intro: I love this series. So much. They are the perfect romances with amazing characters and great storylines. I am way behind on reviewing them but, rest assured, that they are all awesome. This one included.

Heroine: Jenna-I love unrequited love stories and Jenna had a big darn crush on Pete for a long time and her mission in life now is to get over said crush. I really did like Jenna and identified with her. She was such a lively and likeable heroine.

Hero: Pete-He was the perfect combination of sweet and a little rough around the edges. I loved him. I developed quite the Hero Crush on him. Especially with the rescue dog. I have a weakness for rescue dogs-my new dog is a rescue. I may post a picture if Rambo ever deigns to allow me to take his picture.

Chemistry: As with most of Melissa Foster’s books, the chemistry just kicks you right in the cranium. Every couple has magnetic chemistry. Pete and Jenna were no different. Jenna’s crush on Pete adds an interesting dynamic that I really loved. Not quite angst but…tension.

Chemistry Rating:

Conclusion-I fangirl this series so hard. It’s like Jill Shalvis’ series. Every book is amazing. The characters are interesting, the chemistry is beyond awesome and the storylines keep you invested in the series.

He moved up against her again, sending hot fissures down her spine, and curled his arm around her waist. His grip was filled with strength and tension, yet gentle when he pulled her closer. “Miss Grant,” he scorched across her lips, hypnotizing her, paralyzing her. “I’ve had the Royal Navy on me arse. I don’t care about yar kin comin’ after me. Still, I’d prefer not to battle me father’s friend.”
In an instant the gravity of what she had done became clear. Her kin would indeed come after her and he wasn’t afraid. He was obviously mad, not in his right state of mind. Nevertheless, her kin could die in a battle on the sea. “Then…” She arched her back to get away from him. He moved in over her. What would a madman do with her? With Kyle? She needed to know. “…what d’ye plan on doing with me?”
He gave her no time to think, to catch her breath, to pull away…if she had a mind and the strength to do.
Caitrina had been kissed a few years back by young John MacKinnon. But she knew, as the captain’s beguiling mouth dipped down to hers, that this kiss was going to be very very different.
And hell, she was correct.
There was nothing gentle or curious about it. His mouth covered hers with dominance and scalding heat while he dragged her in against the rigid, flat lines of his body. His tongue teased against her lips, licking, tasting her, tempting her to join in his sweet madness. Like that flame, he swept over her, consuming her muscles, scorching her nerve endings. He kissed her until she began to believe he had every right to do so—until her knees went weak and a slight, pitiful gasp escaped her lips.
He finally broke away with a slow, seductive smile she wanted to gaze at for years to come.
She slapped him hard across his face, lest he think to take further liberties in the future—since she hadn’t stopped him the first time.
For a moment, something dark and fully seductive moved across his features. She thought, trying to slow her heartbeat, that he might either strangle her or rip the gown from her body and have his way with her.
“Fergive me,” he said roughly and without a trace of remorse. “I misjudged. I don’t bed children.”
Her mouth fell open and her eyes narrowed into slits. Here she thought he was being gallant, when he was simply being insulting. Children! How dare he imply that she wasn’t yet a woman! “I should slap ye again fer yer insult,” she seethed.
“Do it,” he provoked her with a sinful, sinuous smile, “and the beast that I am at this moment keepin’ at bay, will more than likely haul ya up against that wall and take ya, despite yar protests.”
She felt the color drain from her face. She couldn’t breathe, or think, or speak, blushing and stammering about for something to say. The images he conjured for her frightened and thrilled her out of her skin at the same time. She didn’t like being threatened but she wasn’t a fool to test him.

The Sweet Surrender of Janet Buchanan (The MacGregors: Highland Heirs, #1.5)
Janet Buchanan is no man's property. She refuses to marry her family's sworn enemy-consequences be damned. She'd rather take a dagger to the brute herself. Yet when a tantalizing-and infuriating-man from her past comes to her rescue, Janet finds herself undeniably tempted by his hot, hungry kiss.
Notorious for his prowess as a lover and a fighter, Darach Grant has only one goal in mind: to defend his kin's land from the impending siege of a hostile clan. The last thing he needs is the delicious distraction of Janet Buchanan-the only woman who can stir his ire as deeply as she warms his blood. But Janet's intended will stop at nothing to claim her, forcing Darach to choose between surrendering his honor . . . or his heart.

She laughed, drawing his gaze to her mouth. “My, my, Grant, but ye certainly havena’ changed. Ye are as cocky as before.”
“Ye’re no’ the first to think so.” Letting her hear the smirk in his voice, he raised his fingers to her face and caressed the sweet contour of her chin. He stopped suddenly at the pinch of steel at his groin. He looked down at the small dagger in her free hand, poised between his legs.
“If ye don’t remove yer hand from my face, I’ll most likely be the last.”
Her promise was made of silk and steel, convincing enough to keep him still. Close enough to look into her eyes, Darach drenched his vision in what he saw. A strong, fearless lass, who at present, was enjoying herself immensely. A spirited mare with lightning quick hands and a merciless tilt of her lips.
“I only wish to kiss ye, lass. Nothin’ more,” he promised quietly, pressing her, drawing her in with a finger under her chin. She wouldn’t kill him. Not with a marriage to the Menzie chief looming in her future. He tilted his head and grazed her mouth with his, just lightly enough to share breath, short and instantly heated. He watched her eyes close, her lips parting ever so slightly to receive him more fully.
He paused. What was he doing? Hadn’t it taken him months to put Janet out of his mind? Didn’t every lass he’d pursued since meeting her pale in comparison to her fiery spirit? She made him want to tame her, even though he knew he never could. No one ever would. Should he pursue her this time? She claimed to hate him but he doubted it to be true. What if it wasn’t true and he breaks her heart when he leaves yet again? He might want Janet Buchanan, but Grants didn’t lose things like castles…or hearts to Buchanans. What if his kin didn’t accept her?
“The thought of yer mouth on mine repulses me,” she said shakily, moving back.
She lied. Darach smiled. He didn’t want to think about his kin or past feuds, or anything but Janet’s mouth. She slept in his bed. She thought of him enough to feel the need to write about it—just like he did. It shouldn’t feel like a victory, however small, but it did. And since Darach already knew that victories with Janet would be few, he allowed himself to take enjoyment in it. He took a step closer and dipped his lips to her ear. “Prove it.”
Just as he suspected, she couldn’t. She fell weak when he took her up in the crook of his arm. She didn’t resist his hungry mouth, but searched his with equal abandon.
She awakened every nerve ending, sending scorching heat through Darach’s body. He stopped thinking and kissed her the way he’d dreamed of kissing her long after he left her. With a tight groan and an arm beneath her waist, he hefted her up, closer, if that were possible, and supported her back and her nape while he bent over her and deepened their kiss. He felt her resistance, very slight. Another man might have ignored it. But Darach wasn’t other men. He wanted to fit her between his thighs and let her feel what she brought him to, but he’d promised that he’d only wanted a kiss.
So he steadied her and set her firmly on her feet.
He’d gone daft. It had to be that.
She may have swayed. He knew he did.
She stared at him through hooded eyes and almost made him regret stopping. “If ye ever do that again,” she warned an instant later, looking more clear-headed. “I’ll scratch oot yer eyes.” Without waiting for his reply, she bent and plucked her letters from the trunk. “I’ll send someone tomorrow fer the rest of Margaret’s things. Now move aside and let me pass.”
He obeyed, smiling as she left his chamber. Returning to his bed, he wasn’t completely sure if he wanted to bed her or toss her out the window. He picked up his pillow and smelled her fragrance all over it.
    Bed her.
    Most definitely.

The final electrifying installment in the #1 New York Times bestselling vampyre series

Zoey Redbird is in trouble. Having released the Seer Stone to Aphrodite, and surrendered herself to the Tulsa Police, she has isolated herself from her friends and mentors, determined to face the punishment she deserves—even if that means her body will reject the change, and begin to die. Only the love of those closest to her can save her from the Darkness in her spirit; but a terrible evil has emerged from the shadows, more powerful than ever…

Neferet has finally made herself known to mortals. Crowning herself a Dark Goddess, she is evil unleashed and is enslaving the citizens of Tulsa. The vampyres of the House of Night have banded with the police, and are gathering every last resource they have, but they know that no single vampyre is strong enough to vanquish her—unless that vampyre has the power to summon the elements as well as the ability to wield Old Magick. Only Zoey is heir to such power…but because of the consequences of using Old Magick, she is unable to help.
In the final novel in the House of Night series, an epic battle of Light versus Darkness will decide who is redeemed…and who is forever lost.

The House of Night series by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast is an international phenomenon, reaching #1 on U.S., German, and UK bestseller lists, and remaining a fixture on The New York Times Children’s Series bestseller list for nearly 160 weeks and counting, with more than 12 million copies in print and rights sold in thirty–eight countries to date.

My Review:

I started reading the House of Night series a while back only to get distracted and stop reading towards the middle. Yes, I know. Bad. I tend to do that with long series. Hence, I was a bit worried that I would have to muddle through this one. It is the end of a series that I have missed the whole middle of but I find that I really did enjoy it.

I did love Zoey. It took me a while to make a connection to her but I ended up really liking her. She progresses and matures really nicely throughout the book. I also didn’t quite know who I shipped Zoey with for the most part. I kept wavering throughout. Both Stark and Heath were awesome characters so it was difficult to choose.

I really enjoyed the pace and complexity of Redeemed. There were so many storylines weaving their way through the book that I would have felt a bit overwhelmed if they had not been handled properly. I never felt lost or confused even though I am at a bit of a disadvantage because I’ve missed a great portion of the series.

I will definitely be going back and reading the rest of the series because I really did like this one quite a lot.

Review and Giveaway: Her Perfect Game by Shannyn Schroeder

Her Perfect Game (Hot & Nerdy, #2)Publisher: Kensington
ISBN: 1601833342
Pages: 112 pages
Genre: New Adult
Series:  Hot & Nerdy-1
Buy this Book: Amazon, Nook, iTunes

Spring break is supposed to be a week of fun in the sun for three childhood friends about to graduate from college. But one of them is ready to get her game on somewhere else…

Charlie Castle is an expert archer and a fierce warrior—in her favorite video game, anyway. But college life was a program she couldn’t quite master. To land a cybertech job without a degree, she’s entering a “hackfest” over spring break—where she also hopes to meet the sweet gamer who’s been flirting with her online. Instead, she runs into the hot guy who walked away years ago, and can’t fight the desire that comes rushing back.

Jonah Best has never gotten over Charlie, whose kisses were always as deliciously creative as her coding. But now that they’re face to face again, he doesn’t know how to admit that her online admirer is really him—or how to convince her that he’s offering her a job for her incredible skills, not her sex appeal. Can Jonah cut through their communication glitches and persuade Charlie that the next level up for them should be forever?

My Review:

Intro: I love nerdy romances. I am a nerd. A big one. I can geek out about new technology, comics and new games with the best of them. I’m still nerding out about my phone and I’ve had it for a month. And I really love reading about my people.

Heroine: Charlie-I love that she was a computer genius type of nerd. She was brilliant and I loved her. I did really identify with her struggle between the relative safety of the online world and the risk of the real world.

Hero: Jonah-I love that he was a nerd too. Usually, you have one nerd and one not-so nerdy. But he was just as high on the nerd scale as Charlie. And I loved it. I didn’t identify with him as much as I did with Charlie but I still liked him.

Chemistry: I loved them together. I really did. It was a cacophony of nerd. They were so sweet and it was difficult not to like them together. I like how the whole online identity conflict played into their story.

Chemistry Rating:

Conclusion: I am usually not a big fan of the novella but this series is perfect for this format. The stories move quickly but give you the full sense of the characters’ stories. You don’t feel as if you are missing something. I am really loving this series and can’t wait for the next one.

Review and Giveaway: Alex by Sawyer Bennett

Alex (Cold Fury Hockey, #1)Publisher: Loveswept
ISBN: 0553393006
Pages: 224 pages
Genre: Romance/Contemporary/Sports
Buy this Book: Amazon, Kobo, iTunes, Nook

USA Today bestselling author Sawyer Bennett scores big-time with the first novel in a sexy new series hot enough to melt the ice.

Hockey star Alexander Crossman has a reputation as a cold-hearted player on and off the rink. Pushed into the sport by an alcoholic father, Alex isn’t afraid to give fans the proverbial middle finger, relishing his role as the MVP they love to hate. Management, however, isn’t so amused. Now Alex has a choice: fix his public image through community service or ride the bench. But Alex refuses to be molded into the Carolina Cold Fury poster boy . . . not even by a tempting redhead with killer curves.

As a social worker, Sutton Price is accustomed to difficult people—like Alex, who’s been assigned to help her create a drug-abuse awareness program for at-risk youth as part of the team’s effort to clean up his image. What she doesn’t expect is the arrogant smirk from his perfect lips to stir her most heated fantasies. But Sutton isn’t one to cross professional boundaries—and besides, Alex doesn’t do relationships . . . or does he? The more she sees behind Alex’s bad-boy façade, the more Sutton craves the man she uncovers.

My Review:

Intro: I think I have said it before, I love hockey…even though my team is currently tanking quite horrifically. I love the sport and I also love hockey romances. Especially when the hero is high on the bad boy spectrum. And this one fit that bill so much.

Heroine: Sutton-I liked Sutton. She was a compelling heroine. Nice with an interesting backstory. I did, however, want to see her get angry and just let ‘em have it just once. She just brushes off so many things that she should not brush off.

Hero: Alex-He is a bit of a putz.  A big one. He’s surly and gruff with a large chip on his shoulder. I did have some trouble with how he treated Sutton at times and he was one of the people that I wanted Sutton to let have it.

Chemistry: I loved them together. Mainly because I am a big fan of angst and Sutton and Alex definitely provided that. They weren’t a perfect match by any means but their journey together was definitely interesting.

Chemistry Rating:

Conclusion: I really did like this book quite a bit. I loved the angst and the drama. I spent most of the book loving Alex yet wanting to smack him and I really liked Sutton. The hockey aspect was also right on point—and I am usually very picky about that. I will definitely be keeping up with this series.

P.S. That cover!!!!!!

Review and Giveaway: Once Perfect by Cecy Robson

Once Perfect (Shattered Past, #1)Publisher: Loveswept
ISBN: 9780553391
Pages: 272 pages
Genre: Romance/Contemporary
Buy this Book: Amazon, Kobo, iTunes, Nook

His life was never easy. Hers wasn’t supposed to be this hard. They come from different worlds, but fate lures them together in a way neither expected in Cecy Robson’s raw, steamy series debut—perfect for fans of Monica Murphy and J. Lynn.

Evelyn Preston’s future once looked perfect—until her wealthy father was caught in an embezzlement scandal and took his own life. Alone and struggling to pay her college tuition and bills, Evelyn finds a job as a waitress at the ultra-hip nightclub Excess, where she used to have more in common with the privileged private-school clientele than her fellow staff members. But something attracts her to the sexy six-foot-four bouncer and underground MMA fighter Mateo Tres Santos. Although they’ve led different lives, their troubled pasts bonds them in both survival and love.

Mateo is ex-army who wound up in prison for assaulting the man who harmed his sister. Now he’s feeling the same protective impulse for this petite blond waitress. When Evelyn experiences a panic attack at the club, Mateo comes to her rescue. And when Mateo is wounded shielding her from a brawl, Evelyn returns the favor and comes to his aid.

As their attraction intensifies, Mateo is determined to find out what nightmares are lurking in Evelyn’s past—even if that means tackling his own to save her.

My Review:

Intro: I picked up this book, looked at the cover and knew I needed to read it immediately. ASAP. With no delays. I didn't even put it on the e-reader. I read it on the laptop. I very rarely do that but, I mean, look at the cover. It’s perfect.

Heroine: Evelyn- I started out with a sort of negative impression of her. Due to my own prejudices. Her privileged background created a sort of disconnect with her but I grew to really love her. Watching her progression into independence was really interesting and I really identified with her.

Hero: Mateo-I loved him. He was so sweet with Evie. He is so gentle and kind with her. I don’t swoon often but I was pretty close with Mateo. He was the perfect hero.

Chemistry: Evie and Mateo seem like they wouldn’t go very well together at all. But they were perfect together. Mateo helps Evie come into her own and Evie softens Mateo’s edges a bit.

Chemistry Rating:

Conclusion: This is another series that I will be fangirling. Once Perfect was a reading highlight of the year. I breezed through the book in a couple of hours and fell in love with the characters and the writing. I can’t wait for the next book, Once Loved.

Review: Beyond Coincidence by Jacquie Underdown

Beyond CoincidencePublisher: Escape Publishing
ISBN: 9780857991843
Pages: 220 pages
Genre: Romance/Contemporary/Paranormal
Buy this Book: Amazon, Kobo, Nook

Mixing romance, history, and a touch of the unexplained in a new novel from Jacquie Underdown about love that needs to cross oceans and time before finding a place to come true.

In 2008, 250 Australian and British soldiers are uncovered in a mass grave in Fromelles, France, lost since the Great War. One soldier, bearing wounds of war so deep it scarred his soul, cannot be laid to rest just yet.

When Lucy bumps into the achingly sad soldier during a trip to France, she doesn’t, at first glance, realise what he is – a ghost who desperately needs her help. Lucy can’t turn away from someone who needs her, even someone non-corporeal, and they travel back together to Australia in search of answers and, hopefully, some peace.

This chance meeting and unexplainable relationship sets into motion a chain-reaction of delicate coincidences that affect the intertwined lives of family, friends, and lovers in unexpected, beautiful ways.

My Review:

Intro: I must begin by stating how much I loved this book. It took me a while to get to but once I started reading, I absolutely loved it.

Heroine: Lucy-I really liked Lucy. She was strong and smart but still vulnerable. It was easy to make a connection to her. I loved how willing she was to help a ghost. Most people would just brush an encounter with a ghost off but she didn’t.

Hero: Nate-He started off badly. I mean, very very badly. And usually, I like it when they start out badly. But he grew on me. I loved his progression in the book. He started out so badly but he grew into such a memorable hero.

Chemistry: I think what really drew me into Lucy and Nate’s love story was Freddy, the ghost. He sort of played matchmaker which I just found adorable. They would never have met if they were not helping Freddy. I did love Lucy and Nate together. Their personalities mesh perfectly. They were sweet together but still with a bit of drama added in there.

Chemistry Rating:

Conclusion-I loved this book. I loved Lucy and Nate. I shipped them from the moment they met—yes, I love messy beginnings. I even loved the paranormal aspect and I usually don’t. Freddy was one of the highlights of the book for me. It could have been quite cheesy but it wasn’t.

The scion of the Andrews family carried an aura of personal magnetism so powerful, a sensation close to fright swept through her. She stood still and aloof, masking her emotions. His intense gaze seemed almost a physical touch. She held her head at a proud, haughty angle, not flinching from his bold scrutiny.

In seconds, Trevor regained his cool, casual air. A lusty grin caught at the corners of his mouth, and fire danced in his eyes as he bent ever so slightly at the waist, tipped an imaginary hat, and strode casually into the house.

She would never be the same...

From Plantation era New Orleans to the untamed American West, here is the sweeping, unforgettable tale of a headstrong young beauty and the man she is destined to love.

My Review:

Intro: It took me a while to get through this one. It’s not that I didn’t enjoy it because I did but it was a book I wanted to take my time with. I think I enjoyed it all the more because I took my time with it.

Heroine: Celine-I really liked Celine. She was a strong heroine who was easy to like and root for. I did have some moments where I wanted to knock her over the head with something but, in general, I liked her.

Hero: Trevor-Trevor was an awesome hero. He was so likable. He had an easy-going, affable way about him but was capable of great intensity as well.

Chemistry: They sort of reminded me of the old school romances. Not in the bodice-ripping kind of way but there was plenty of angst and drama to keep things interesting.

Chemistry Rating:

Conclusion: I loved this book. I loved the characters, the angst, and the historical detail. I loved just about everything. This is my first book by Kathleen Bittner Roth but I definitely will be reading more.
