Her Best Shot (Hot & Nerdy, #1)Publisher: Kensington
Pages: 130 pages
Genre: Romance/Contemporary/New Adult

With college graduation looming, three childhood friends vow to make spring break their last blast of pure fun. But at least one of them didn’t count on such incredible heat…

Layla Sharpe is definitely more math ninja than bikini babe, and her future has been calculated with razor precision. Convinced to let loose over spring break, Layla is finally ready to party—until her car breaks down halfway to her destination, leaving her stranded in Georgia with a mouthwateringly hot pool shark. She knows more than enough about angles to learn the game, but this week she wants him to appreciate her curves…

Phin Marks has never met a girl like Layla. She’s more Star Wars geek than seductress, and when he offers her a place to stay while her car is in the shop, he’s counting on the attraction between them to set the nights ablaze, no strings attached. But every moment he spends with Layla makes it harder to let her go. Can he persuade her to gamble in the most dangerous way possible…on forever?

My Review:

Intro: I am just getting over a couple of days spent with the dread demon known as food poisoning. It figures that the one time I eat sushi, it’s a bad batch. But I am better now and playing much catch up in my life and my reading. A novella was the perfect place for me to start after my short hiatus.

Heroine: Layla-I definitely liked her. It was very easy for me to connect with her. She was strong and capable and I loved that she was brainy.

Hero: Phin-His background was so unique and interesting—I have to confess to a slight addiction to those gypsy themed shows on TV. I really did like him. He wasn’t as much of a bad boy as I thought he would be though but I think I may have liked him more because he was a genuinely nice guy.

Chemistry: I love the progression between Phin and Layla. Their chemistry was intense but it was sort of quiet. There was not much angst to cause much drama. I mean, there was some but not as much as I usually like in my romances. I was actually a bit surprised by how well they worked for me given the lack of angst.

Chemistry Rating:

Conclusion: I usually avoid novellas because I never really feel as if I get the “right” amount of story. I always want to know the characters better and delve into their stories more. But I love how well we got to know Phin and Layla. I never felt as if the length of the book impacted how well I know and love the characters.
