Readers of Julia Quinn, Eloisa James, and Sabrina Jeffries will love Ashlyn Macnamara’s novel about a smoldering new love that is threatened by past betrayals.

Viscount Lindenhurst cannot seem to find a governess who meets his impossible standards—until Cecelia Sanford becomes the first woman to interrupt the widower’s brooding in years. Lind had returned home from the Napoleonic wars, broken in body and soul and longing for his wife’s embrace, only to find her changed. Before they could reconcile, an accident struck their son and claimed her life. Now enter Cecelia, with her soft curves and sharp tongue—a tempting distraction, it is true, but not a welcome one.

Past the usual marrying age and haunted by a scandal of her own, Cecelia soon finds herself caring for both the child and the man. The viscount is brittle and even abrupt at times, yet she cannot deny the attraction that stirs her body in his presence. Moved by the deep sense of abandonment that tortures his soul, Cecelia aches to fully awaken Lind’s heart from its rancorous slumber—if she can just keep their pasts from destroying a second chance at love.

My Review:

Intro: I actually had to rewrite this review because I lost the scrap of paper it was written on. And that is a good thing because I loved this book so much more the second time around.

Heroine: Cecilia-I liked her. She was a smart, strong and very capable heroine. I liked that she didn’t let her past get to her too much. Her past plays a role but doesn’t define her or hinder her progress. I also loved how she bonded with Lind’s son, Jeremy.

Hero: Lind-He was ill-tempered and crotchety but he had a vulnerability about him that I really loved. His past had a very big impact on his life and his behavior. I found myself both frustrated with him and protective of him.

Chemistry: I absolutely loved Cecilia and Lind together. It sounds corny but they helped each other heal from their pasts and it was quite sweet. It definitely was a bit of a slow burn which I really appreciated.

Chemistry Rating:

Conclusion: I loved this book so much. I haven’t read a book by Ashlyn Macnamara before but I think I need to pick up more of her books. This was the perfect balance of angst and romance. And I absolutely loved both Cecilia and Lind. They were such well-drawn and interesting characters. I will definitely be following the rest of this series.
